Lost In Tyme Records scores a hat-trick with their third release, the debut single from Swiss garage maniacs, the Royal Hangmen. This 7" is titled Mary Jane, but anyone who expects cannabis influenced hippie noodlings will be dissapointed, as this is is a 100% frantic Garage Punk record. The song in question is a classic -Vox organ fueled- track in the vein of the 5 Canadians, with a pummeling bass line ,screaming R&B vocals and a fuzzed up lead guitar break. In true Garage fashion, the flipside is a folkpunk piece, that sounds like the Nightcrawlers on speed, with some tasty 12 string Rickenbacker and a Small Faces style flangered finish. The Royal Hangmen, are self confessed vintage instrument junkies, which you can tell by the sound of this record. Listening to this 7", whets my appetite for a full length release by the Royal Hangmen, and the same goes for Lost In Tyme as well!

„Mary Jane“, the A side of The Royal Hangmen’s single, is a garage punker in the vein of early Fuzztones. It’s eclipsed by the more melodic and memorable flip, “You Better Tell That Girl”, where the Swiss band conjure up a good chorus and some fine folk-rock guitars.

Hailing from Zurich, Switzerland, The Royal Hangmen make their LIT debut in a raging fury of swirling vox organ and helter-skelter screaming vocals. And let me tell you, these cats got it down right. From the mod-sixties styling on their 7" cover to the insane garage-rock blow-up that lingers inside, these guys are the real deal. Pulse-pounding riffing starts "Mary Jane" on the right foot, complimented by some pulverizing bass playing and floating organ chords that will get your head spinning faster than a 7-11 hotdog on the rotissarie. Add in some seriously enthusiastic Sonics-styled vocals and we got ourselves a burner.
Flipside, "You Better Tell That Girl," does nothing to slow down the proceedings. Adding a slightly more pop-friendly sheen of jangly 12-string guitars and some real radio-friendly melodies, this song torches all the way through the damn fine sing-along chorus. A real treat for all fans of 60's inspired garage rock, and not one to be missed. Tras un cd a modo de maqueta, en donde estos Ahorcados Reales daban buena cuenta de clasicos del garaje punk que todo seguidor del género seguramente habrá escuchado infinidad de veces, tanto por sus creadores originales como por cualquier banda que no dudaba en dejarse la vida en la ejecución de temas como “Psycho”, “Steppin’ Stone” o “I never loved her” que este cuarteto incluían en su debut del año 2006 junto algún tema propio. Ese cd acabó en las manos de los responsables del fanzine griego Lost in Tyme que no dudaron en incluir a estos oriundos de Zurich en el número 4 de su fanzine con todo un pepinazo de garaje punk lleno de tópicos que se titulaba “Who’s that man” ya incluido en su estreno digital. Un órgano vox asfixiando el ambiente, golpes de fuzz guitar, imparable beat de batería y coros tribales en uno de los mejores temas que venían incluidos en el cd que acompañaba el fanzine sin hacer de menos a nombres clásicos como Cynics, Brood o Thanes entre los nombres consagrados del género pero dejando por el camino nuevas bandas como Norvins, Gitanes, Kilroy o Urges . Los responsables de la psicóticas hojas son conscientes de ello y la propuesta de un disco de vinilo no se hace esperar y en este año que termina estos suizos ven editado todo un single con dos únicos temas, envuelto en una portada que no da lugar a ninguna duda de lo que vas a encontrar entre los surcos de este single. “Mary Jane” es una locura que perfectamente podría haber sido ejecutada por los Fuzztones en sus inicios mas frenéticos, una orgía de fuzz y farfisa sin lugar a trégua, sólo por ese tema ya están justificados los casi seis eurípides que vale el disco, en la cara b “You better tell that girl” en clave de folk rock como sólo los Cynics saben hacerlo y en donde diferentes melodías te vienen a la cabeza, pero aún así perfectamente disfrutable mientras se esperan más entregas en formato vinílico.
